The City of Lino Lakes was incorporated in 1953 and established their initial water supply facility in 1971. Today, Lino Lakes city water services over 17,000 people and comes from 6 wells that draw from the Prairie du Chien-Jordan and Jordan-St. Lawrence aquifers.

Lino Lakes adds polyphosphate to control the iron content, along with fluoride and chlorine, to the pumped well water before it is distributed to homes and businesses in the City. Wellhead Protection

In order to protect the City’s wells, the City of Lino Lakes has developed a Wellhead Protection Plan, approved by MDH. Most recently, their Part 1 Plan was updated in 2013 and their Part 2 Plan update was approved in 2016. Lino Lakes was a founding member of the Anoka County Municipal Wellhead Protection Group, which formed in 2010 (although the initial planning group formed in 1997), and continues to participate in the group. If you have questions regarding the City’s Wellhead Protection Plan, contact the City’s Wellhead Protection Manager, Justin Williams, Utilities Supervisor at 651-982-2452 or JWilliams@linolakes.us. For more information on Wellhead Protection Plans in general, refer to the MDH Source Water Protection webpage.

In addition, there are more than 1,200 private wells in the City of Lino Lakes.
