Lakes, Creeks, and Ditches
There are 77 named lakes in Anoka County that can satisfy anyone from water-skier to water-fowler. Thirty-eight (38) lakes are considered of notable significance because of recreational use, public access, number of lakeshore residences, or are part of a chain of lakes making management a high priority. Other smaller, less developed, lakes and ponds provide an important function in the natural system of the water cycle to maintain the quality and quantity of our water resources.
The Mississippi River borders the county on the southwest. The Rum River, a scenic and recreational river, flows north to south from St. Francis to Anoka. The Sunrise River is found in the Linwood Township in the northeast part of the County.
