At the other end of your kitchen faucet is your public utility. City utilities get their water from wells that remove the groundwater beneath us. Keeping our drinking water safe means protecting groundwater from pollution. Everyone in the community has a part in protecting groundwater from pollution. The Know The Flow website provides tips and opportunities for residents, property owners and businesses to keep pollution out of our water resources and contaminants out of our water supply.
For home or cabin well owners – you are your own utility service. You have to take measures to protect your drinking water from pollution and perform regular (annual) water tests to see if contaminants are reaching your wells. See the Minnesota Department of Health’s Well Owners Handbook for more information.
NOTE: Columbia Heights and Hilltop water utilities get their water from the Minneapolis Water Works and the Mississippi River.
